A Big Infrared Laser
The laser SCI uses puts out ten thousand watts of concentrated infra-red energy. As you might guess, it's really big. It's as big as a boxcar. Infrared is just a bit lower in energy than visible red light. We sense it as heat. Ten kilowatts of it from the laser vaporizes paper very quickly, and in minute detail. In fact, you can see smoke stains where the paper was vaporized (not burned, vaporized) on some of the parts in Space Craft (tm) SCIENCE KITs. It's most visible on the back side of some white parts.
Space Craft (tm) SCIENCE KITs are made entirely of 100% Recycled heavy-weight paper with lithographed color, bonded gold and silver metal foil. They are pre-cut by the high-power infrared lasers into intricate detail not only to replicate spacecraft trusses and other details, but also to include convenient hooks which help you assemble the model.
